The government plans to impose embossed number plates on all vehicles in Nepal starting July 1. To request the embossed license plates, citizens can apply through the Department of Transportation Management website.
In the first phase, the embossed number plates for the registration of new vehicles from July and the renewal of old vehicles will be mandatory. However, anyone who would like to receive an embossed license plate can apply online.
The government aims to have embossed number plates on all vehicles within the next five years. Some people have already stamped the license plate on their vehicle immediately after purchasing the vehicle, but most people are not aware of the advantages and usefulness of this license plate.
What is an embossed license plate?
An embossed license plate is a vehicle control system that uses the most modern technology. The mechanical application of numbers and letters to a metal plate is also known as an embossed license plate.
The embossed license plate, which is different from those currently used on vehicles, is raised above the surface of the license plate.
The advantage of an embossed license plate
At the moment, vehicle theft has increased enormously in Nepal. Motorcycles are stolen every day. According to the police, the number of vehicle thefts has not decreased.
With the introduction of the new number plate, vehicle theft is sure to come under control in Nepal. Once the license plate is in place, it’s like a solid decade that the license plate cannot be removed.
Some vehicles run without tax clearance for years. If you drive tax-free after stamping the number, it will be recorded immediately. The registration is on the license plate itself.
Similarly, the raised license plate has a ‘Radio Frequency Identification Number’. You can easily find out the number of vehicles, where and under what conditions they are.
After the introduction of the increased number plate, Nepalese vehicles will also meet world-class standards. The number of vehicles will be the same worldwide.
Today there are many types of license plates in Nepal. But after the embossed plates are used, they will be limited to five, namely President, Government, Diplomatic, Personal, and Commercial (Rental).
Also, a “gateway” will be placed which “reads” the statistics of how many vehicles have gone where and can easily call up detailed vehicle information from traffic management.
How do you emboss the license plate?
According to the Department of Transportation Management, the vehicle’s entire tax must be paid before applying for the embossed license plate.
When the tax is paid, you need to go to the department’s website and click on the registration system on the first page, fill in all the vehicle details, submit the online application form and print out the completed form.
Subsequently, from July 1st, the Transportation Management Office (Motorcycles) for two-wheelers, the branch of the Global IME Bank in Gurjudhara, and other vehicles must generate income from the registration fee of the Ekantakuna Transport Authority (small and large vehicles) in Lalitpur.
The updated documents for the payment of the vehicle tax, the original copy of the deposited bank receipt with the registration fee, and the documents required in the online application system must be given to DOTM for verification.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced that it will not start printing embossed license plates until the competent authority has reviewed them. Applicants for the embossed number plate will be notified of the provision of the number plate via SMS.
Applicants can choose the appropriate date to paste the embossed label through SMS. In the case of private vehicles, the vehicle owner can provide his biometric data for private vehicles and the embossed license plate number can be affixed to the vehicles. In the case of vehicles owned by the government or an official company group, the person in charge can come forward for registration.
What does a license plate look like?
This license plate will limit the 23 types of license plates currently used in Nepal to 5 types.
From now on the President’s car bears the Nepalese flag, light blue from above, dark blue below, letter NEP, under that a rhododendron with the symbol of Nepal.
Similarly, there is a legal requirement that a black letter on a yellow sign in public transport, a black letter on a white sign in a private vehicle, a red-letter on a white sign in a government vehicle, and a blue letter on a white sign in a government vehicle a diplomatic vehicle.
The license plates of all vehicle types will be long at the front and rectangular at the back.
How is this Number Plate?
The 99 percent aluminum license plate has laminated retroreflective seats and is designed to meet international standards.
Its hardness is H41 and H42 and its thickness is 0.98 mm. The numbers and letters uploaded by stamping on the base plate are positively engraved.
On the left side of the plate is the flag of Nepal and below it, the letter NEP in English and a security hologram below it.
The upper part of the table is written in English with an indication of the province, below it the lot of the vehicle with a maximum of 4 digits.
All devices except the two-wheeler have an RFID antenna tag in the front windscreen glass.
On motorcycles, the chips are provided with a special cap on the rear license plate and all the details of the Soma RFID tag are retained.
How much is the cost?
The Department of Transportation Management has set a rate of 2,500 rupees for motorcycles, 2,900 rupees for tricycles, 3,200 rupees for medium and four-wheelers, and 3,600 rupees for heavy-duty vehicles.
