LaLiga Football To Stream In ESPN For Next 8 Seasons

ESPN and Spanish league, LaLiga has reached a historic rights agreement to stream LaLiga football for the next eight seasons. Starting from August 2021, all the deals will be valid till the 2028-29 season.

Having lost the rights to Italy’s Serie A to Paramount+, this multi-year deal is a massive achievement for ESPN. Now both LaLiga Santander & Smartbank will be exclusive on ESPN alongside Spanish Copa del Rey, Copa de la Reina, and Supercopa de España.

What Does This Deal Mean To ESPN & LaLiga

In terms of this deal, both ESPN and LaLiga are benefiting massively. ESPN will be home to massive clubs like FC Barcelona, Real Madrid & Atletico Madrid. Similarly, LaLiga will be extending its viewership reach to the United States and the UK. Javier Tebas, President, LaLiga also went onto say:

“We are absolutely thrilled to bring LaLiga to ESPN in the U.S.,”

Now, the eight-year deal will add to ESPN+ strong lineup of football, which currently owns deal with Spain’s Copa del Rey, German Bundesliga, Major League Soccer (USA), England’s EFL, FA Cup, Carabao Cup UEFA National Team Football, and many more.

Around 2,900 matches will be broadcast per season with more than 1,000 in English and Spanish alone. In addition, ESPN+ will cover 380 LaLiga matches with both live and on-demand replay coverage. Also, LaLiga Smartbank matches will be live-streamed, including five postseason promotion playoffs.

Apart from all the live matches, ESPN+ will give a variety of surround programming like match highlights, previews, studio programs. Selected matches will also air across ESPN networks each season on SportsCenter and ESPN studio program.

From Saturday, May 15, a collection of LaLiga dedicated programs will make a way in ESPN+. The programs will include ESPN FC LaLiga Special, LaLiga Center featuring the best goals, the best U.S players in the league’s history. In addition, LaLiga Top moments, Galacticos docuseries, and some unique stories of LaLiga fans across North America.

Here is a brief summary of what the long-term deal include:

  • 380 LaLiga Santander matches per season, featuring all 20 teams in first division soccer in Spain
  • LaLiga Show and LaLiga World – two weekly, in-season magazine programs.
    • LaLiga Show previews key LaLiga matchups each match week;
    • LaLiga World features highlights, interviews, and classic moments from the previous weekend’s action;
  • LaLiga Season Preview and Review – two separate one-hour pre-and post-season programs each year,
  • El Clásico specials – one-hour programs that showcase the most famous derby in global soccer ahead of the home-and-away regular season FC Barcelona vs. Real Madrid matches;
  • LaLiga Highlights Show, recapping each week’s games; special programs about first division soccer in Spain; a weekly LaLiga SmartBank highlights and magazine show; and more.
  • Select programming from LaLigaTV – the English-language network devoted to 24/7 coverage of the league;
  • Classic LaLiga Matches – Access to some of the league’s most recent storied matches
